3-05 A Balm in Gilead: Life After a Season of Grief
ValLimar Jansen
The words of the Spiritual sing, “There is a Balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole.” Balm of Gilead was a rare perfume which had medicinal properties. Jeremiah 8:22 asks, “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?” There is spiritual medicine that is able to make us whole. There is healing for the wounds of God’s people. God is the Great Physician! We have experienced a catastrophic season of pandemic, quarantine, death, social rebellion, and unprecedented loss on many levels. ValLimar will utilize Holy Scripture, music, storytelling, reflection and exhortation to help express our grief and move us along the path toward spiritual healing and wholeness. Please bring a picture of anyone you lost during the pandemic for a special slideshow during the session’s closing prayer.
Traveling to over 65 events annually (pre-pandemic), ValLimar serves the Church as a composer, singer, storyteller, inspirational speaker and evangelizer! She does more than entertain. ValLimar is a dynamic catechetical resource and a teacher with excellent skills and credentials. Currently, she is pursuing an advanced degree in Religious Studies. Drawing on her undergraduate (CSUSB) and graduate (UCSB) degrees in the Arts, ValLimar composes all her music in collaboration with her husband, Frank Jansen. They live in Southern California near their large, supportive family.
