The new Directory for Catechesis states that the catechist is called to be, “a teacher and a mystagogue" who introduces others to the mystery of God revealed in the Paschal Mystery of Christ. This means that, while we most certainly transmit content and information, we do so with the context or climate of prayerful encounter with Divine Mystery. In this presentation, Joe Paprocki, DMin, will unpack the meaning of mystagogy and how catechists can and must serve as, not only teachers, but also mystagogues.
Joe Paprocki, DMin, the National Consultant for Faith Formation at Loyola Press, has over 40 years of experience in catechetical ministry and has authored over 20 books on pastoral ministry and spirituality, including his most recent, "Preparing Hearts and Minds: 9 Simple Ways for Catechists to Cultivate a Living Faith". He has presented in over 150 dioceses in North America.
